When a tooth is very decayed or heavily filled the nerve of the tooth can become inflamed resulting in hyper sensitivity, toothache and/or an abscess. When the damage to the never isirreversible a root canal treatment is required.
Root canal treatments usually require two visits and in difficult cases a patient maybe referred for specialist treatment.
There maybe some tenderness after the first treatment but this usually settles quickly. If the tooth does not settle extraction may be considered. We advise crowning of root filled teeth usually 6 months after treatment as root filled teeth become brittle over time.
